VILLAGE SQUARE SHOPPING CENTRE

A Mining Town Haven

Located in Randfontein, on the cusp of the Westrand and Soweto Metropolitan areas, this shopping centre caters to a broad LSM market and attracts a broad spectrum of defining cultures.

The centre is located in the traditional heart of the town and its redevelopment sought to strengthen and reinforce this aspect through further façade interaction and activity.

Many of the previous “dead edges” have been opened up with new shops, shop fronts and seating being added through fast food eateries and banking requirements.

A complete visual facelift was instituted to cover all “corn starch” facebrick. All shop fronts were replaced and all ceilings and mall finishes were reconceptualised to attain a modern, naturally lit environment.

The project was completed in four phases, new anchors being enlarged and added to establish a larger footprint and ending in a new entrance being added to link all four sides to the town. The GLA of the centre was extended from 8 000m2 to 22 000 m2
